yongboon is now a great translator. To all who need translators for jap–> english, yongboon is approach-able for conversational jap and approachable too!

what’s the hyphen between approach and able supposed to mean -_______- and i’m sure there are many more people who are better than me. like those who still take jap. like the two demons in my class.

  • Uhhh.

I find that I actually enjoy reading manga. Yes. Really.

    - – Rejoice, Yong and Tingyi and other manga-loving people! – -

Well, not all manga. I just – actually, yesterday- read the first volume of 柯南, and it’s surprisingly good.

now you and boony have more to talk about (: i swear she’s as infatuated with conan as sotong is with kenshin. or was. since it was an infatuation it didn’t last very long. and now i think sotong likes…hunny-senpai?

      SHE DOES!?

Oh my goose. She reads manga?!!!!!

    • chou 8:33 am on December 24, 2008 Permalink | Reply

yes. conan. and witch. or w.i.t.c.h., which i am too lazy to put in all the dots.

    • boonny 12:26 pm on December 25, 2008 Permalink | Reply

      thank you very much, yongboon.
yes, conan is nice to read. but i’ve given up on witch cause my mom doesn’t like it. the first volume of conan is one of the nicest, cause i find the rest a teensy bit boring.
there’s no need to be so surprised.

Your mom doesn’t like witch? Does she like conan, then, or is she neutral about it?

I knew you read witch, but I neve knew you read conan.
If you read those shojo (or what it’s supposed to be) manga TY reads then my jaw will really DROP.

i’d love to see that. but i think as far as manga goes, i’ve only read conan and a few pages of my brother’s slam dunk, which i found boring.

      cartoons is another story.

    • chou 2:00 pm on December 28, 2008 Permalink | Reply

actually it’s shoujo. and sotong probably reads more shonen that i do…stands for 少女and少男.

I love conan! I read online, unfortunately, being low in the money dept. D:

I love wondering about the solution to the seemingly impossible cases <3

rejoice! xinboon is has just peeked into the world of the otakus! (I’m still a mere passer-by status. if i go any deeper mom will Murder me…)

oh, Conan is a shonen, I think. According to onemanga the last time i checked.

    • jekloneo 3:15 pm on December 29, 2008 Permalink | Reply

      Wait.
      You have a brother, Boonny?
      I never knew.

Ah, shoujo. What’s the diff between shoujo and shounen, in terms of content?

nooboet, I’m low in the $ dept too. I bought only the first two books, which cost RM 9.80. That was before the 10% discount. So they actually cost RM 8.82, about SGD 4.40? Thought that was affordable for manga.

In case you’re wondering why it’s in RM, I bought them in Malacca. On an immensely boring shopping trip my mother signed me up for without my knowledge. Oh well, at least I bought some books (besides conan).

Book recommendation: The Way of Shadows, by Brent Weeks. Unfortunately, the NLB doesn’t have it. Well, it was out only in Oct 2008.
NB: It’s the first of a trilogy.
Oh, and for the book/story, visit the author’s website. Just type “Brent Weeks” and it’ll pop out.

i was correcting jekloneo’s spelling, but yes conan is shonen. according to onemanga,

“Shoujo manga (also known as Shojo manga) primarily target girls. It is the female equivalent of Shonen. The story often centers around romance and love and is closely tied to the Romance and Drama genres.” and

“Shounen manga (also known as Shonen manga) primarily target boys. It is the male equivalent of Shoujo. The story often centers around fighting and action and is closely tied to the Action, Adventure and Martial Arts genres.”

and nooboet! are you trying to imply that i’m an otaku?! though i’m not going to blatently deny it, i’m not that beyond hope of being a normal person you know!
